Empowering Vulnerable Populations Through Climate Smart Agriculture

On Thursday, the 29th of January, 2026, the DanChurch Aid team visited us for a Project Monitoring exercise at one of our project sites in Sasasa Area, T/A Chivwenene, Rumphi district.

In this area, we are implementing the empowering vulnerable populations through climate smart agriculture project. With funding from NCA-DCA, this project commenced in 2021 and it will run through December, 2026. We are carrying out a number of interventions such as Agro Ecology, Beans Farming, Goat Pass on, Bee Keeping and Honey Production, VSLAs, Village Tribunals and Seed Bank, among others.

In these various interventions, we are currently working with 232 beneficiaries, 132 females and 100 males.

The beneficiaries through their respective groups presented on how they have benefited through the different interventions. It was learnt that one of the beneficiaries in the Beans Farming has been able to construct a Grocery shop within the area where he is selling some basic grocery items hence boosting his economic wellbeing. Some have been able to roof their houses, and are able to get daily income and daily food, among others.

In addition, the Village tribunals have empowered women and enhanced gender equality. Through this intervention, most women are now able to take an active role in matters of justice.

The Programme’s Director for DanChurchAid, Cecilie Bjornskov Johansen expressed satisfaction with the progress being made by the farmers and SPRODETA.

Together, we will achieve our goal of uplifting the most vulnerable communities by implementing sustainable livelihood initiatives.
